Guest Room Makeover

Writer's picture: Jessica ChappellJessica Chappell

My very first apartment was a spacious 1 bedroom apartment in Tennessee. Most of my friends and family lived close enough, so hosting a guest overnight was rare. My second "apartment" barely had room for my bed, let alone another! (see more about that tiny space here). So having a second bedroom in my current home is definitely a treat. The best part? It actually gets used for guests, that I get to host, who come from across the country, to see me (and the beach). It's a dream, really. For the first several months, this room just got used as storage. However, recently I got to spend some time in there and make it into a cozy little guest room with just enough room for a sewing table. Most things I needed for this room I already owned, so the only purchase I had left to make was the bed frame. Since there is currently a TV in that room, across from the bed, I decided to buy a daybed to serve the purpose of both a bed and a couch. The previous tenant used this room for her little boy, who I imagine is an aspiring astronaut, because she painted the ceiling and part of the walls a dark blue and filled it with approximately 4,000,000 glow in the dark stars. Every little boy's dream, just not mine.

I hung some curtains, painted over the creamy yellow walls with my go-to gray, and removed the galaxy. The next step was assembling the bed frame, making the bed (I just used an air mattress I already owned), and adding the final touches.

I found this wooden quilt square at Home Goods, I loved how it reminded me of Barn Quilt squares that are scattered all over the southern states.
